At the edge of South Africa’s West Coast lies a guesthouse not just built from wood and steel—but from vision, values, and an unwavering belief in local impact.

When a chance viewing led the guesthouse’s owner to a spacious property on Paternoster’s beachfront, it sparked the beginning of a deeply intentional hospitality project. From the reclaimed boat-deck communal table to interiors made with recyclable plywood, everything in the home reflects a philosophy rooted in sustainability, simplicity, and social responsibility.

Design decisions were made with local pride in mind: from woven baskets made in Malawi to textiles sourced from South African artisans, every item tells a story of place. Even the bathrooms were crafted using hand-welded steel rods, and no design element was imported unnecessarily. “We’re not coming to South Africa to see Europe,” the owner says. “Travelers want the African feeling.”

But perhaps the most powerful element? The team. Made up of local women from underprivileged backgrounds, the staff are nurtured, respected, and deeply engaged in the guest experience—something every visitor notes in the guestbook.
